The Dodge Charger to Enter The Police Cruiser Market!
Chrysler Group LLC is upping the ante in the battle for the police cruiser market, offering a new all-wheel-drive version of its Dodge Charger Pursuit sedan equipped with a powerful 5.7-liter HEMI V-8.The Charger will be available in all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive to better meet the needs of police departments across the country, which will especially appeal to those who deal with harsher winter weather.
The police market has been up for grabs since Ford discontinued its popular Crown Victoria last year. The Crown Victoria had been the backbone of North American law enforcement fleets for years. However, the Dodge Charger is a better equipped vehicle all around, especially with the option of AWD combined with power. The all-wheel-drive version will be equipped with the same engine as the HEMI-powered rear-wheel-drive model that achieved the fastest-ever lap time at the 2012 Michigan State Police’s Vehicle Evaluation Test at Grattan Raceway in Michigan. The engine delivers 370 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. The new Charger Pursuit will go up against rival police models from General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co.
Needless to say, I don’t think any Law Enforcement officer out there will have a problem adapting to the new fleet. So hopefully there won’t be a next time, but if you see those flashing red and blue lights in your rear view mirror, chances are it will be a Dodge Charger. Just don’t ask the officer to take a test drive.
