Old Jeep U.S. Military Ads!

This Memorial Day weekend it is important to take time to recognize and remember all the fallen service men and women of our military services. As we honor the U.S. Military this weekend we also thought it would be interesting to show how Jeep played a role in our military services but more specifically WWII.

The photos above are from a 1944 Willy's ads. The first illustrations shows a dramatic and intense scene in the jungle during WWII. Through all the ups and downs Jeep vehicles were a crucial part of American Success, especially with their intense off road capabilities.

These ads ran to help Jeep transition into residential life and for the personal use of drivers. With all its capabilities and ruggedness U.S. servicemen wanted to use this vehicle at home as well.
The bottom ad is a representation of "post war" life with a Jeep. The family of the returned solider gather around him as they catch up with him and get a closer look at this new and interesting vehicle. Little do they know that this Jeep will become apart of the American household!

One state in the U.S. is well on its way to allowing autonomous cars on the road! In California this week, with a vote of 37-0 the State Senate approved Senate Bill 1298. This bill begins to establish the guidelines on how to oversee self-driving vehicles.

This bill will leave the Department of Highway Patrol and the Department of Motor Vehicles with the responsibility of providing recommendation to the legislature on "the safe operation of autonomous vehicles on California's public roads" both with and without a licensed driver present. Although, the driver-less provision can't come into effect until the NHTSA draws up federal guidelines on autonomous cars without drivers.

So far California is the second state after Nevada to make progress in the introduction and change to autonomous vehicles. At the moment there are even four other states debating the topic and considering legislation. Who knows, maybe New York will be next!

5 Things You Need for a Perfect Memorial Day Weekend!

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer and what better way to celebrate than with an adventure in your Jeep! Here are some things we recommend you bring to ensure a fun and unforgettable time this holiday weekend!

1. Spare Tire Cover. Your Jeep is a patriotic symbol so show it off! Pick up an American flag spare tire cover and show your pride!

2. Cooler. After your off-road adventure you'll want to take some time to relax so what better way than with food and drink! Invest in some tie down straps, fill up your cooler and now you have a Jeep with a fridge!

3. Binoculars. They're always good to have in the wilderness or wherever your Jeep takes you! But, they're also good for watching fireworks!

4. Picnic blanket. It's always good to keep a blanket in your car just in case of emergency's or in this case a picnic!

5. A portable grill. Now you can take all that food out of your Jeep fridge and cook it up! It's always great to have a home cooked meal far from home so don't forget to pack this essential item!

Stopping to fill up your gas tank can be inconvenient and time consuming, but replacing a car part could be more of a nuisance. If your the type to keep putting off filling up your tank and you cruise around on E you may be doing harm to your car, more specifically your fuel pump.

Your car's fuel pump brings gasoline from the tank to the engine. It is lubricated by the fuel from the tank and once it gets to a certain level there is not enough gas to slosh on the pump so it then has to work harder to draw gasoline form the bottom of the tank. When this happens your pump could stop working and repairs could become costly.

The best thing to do is to at least keep your tank at 1/4 of the way full, especially in the summer when temperatures rise. One of the worst things for you fuel tank is heat, especially on 90 degree summer days with heat for the pavement baking your fuel tank. So, stop riding around on E and waiting to fill up your tank because before you know it your car my come rolling to a stop along with your fuel pump.

With all the high gas prices today its kind of hard to avoid pain at the pump, so we've come up with nine ways to help keep some green in your wallet!

1. Slow down!
According to the DOE every 5 mph you drive over 60 mph represents a 7% decrease in fuel economy.

2. Check your tire pressure!
Tires that are under inflated have more roll resistance which means your burning more fuel in order to keep your car moving! Fuel economy can be improved 3.3% if you have properly inflated tires.

3. Accelerate with caution!
Accelerating too fast can waste fuel, but doing it modestly, allowing the transmission to shift can save you gas. Rapid braking and acceleration can lower your gas mileage by 33% on the highway and 5% in the city.

4. Cruise control!                                                                                                                                                                                               Using a constant speed instead of slowing down and speeding up can reduce fuel significantly! Follow the lead of trucks and keep the same speed just like trucks!

5. Avoid idling!                                                                                                                                                                                             Because when you idle you get 0 miles per gallon.

6. Save gas with the stock!                                                                                                                                                                               OEM specification help create less resistance, bigger wheels may look cool but they waste the most gas.

7. Clean your car!                                                                                                                                                                                            Carrying around all that junk you don't need only adds weight, which then impacts fuel economy. An extra 100 pounds can decrease MPG by 2% so clean it!

8. Plan your trip!                                                                                                                                                                                          Grouping your trips together instead of making several different ones save you more gas. Several trips can use twice as much fuel as a single longer trip that covers the same distance!

9. Keep up with regular maintenance!                                                                                                                                                                  Use the proper maintenance fluids and replacements parts such as engine oil and other fluids your manufacturer recommends. Change your oil regularly and follow your routine maintenance guidelines!
